here is a video showing the process for bringing out the texture in the background of a painting. pretty simple...put paint on....take paint off. this may seem silly but the point is to get paint into all the little holes, crevices, and cracks in the background. this texture was first created with plaster and then painted over with a solid background color. then when you wipe the surface, paint remains in the crevices and then it looks super cool.
